When I look at the social media feeds of the large slimming companies in the UK, I notice that it’s largely focused on food, which, if you didn’t know by now, isn’t really the reason that most of us are overweight. 😱
Our problems with food stem from the way we feel about ourselves. Food’s a great way to give ourselves a hug and make us feel better. And when we do this too much then it can contribute to weight gain.
Diets or any other name for it (clean eating, eating healthy, avoiding sugar, juicing, detoxing) promote obsessive behaviour and contribute to feelings of not being good enough.
As soon as you place restrictions you create an environment in your brain where food becomes the thing you think about the most. When you’re trying to eat less of it or avoid certain foods, then you create a situation where you focus far too much of your attention on the avoidance and the planning.
❓Ever been on a diet and found that you permanently worry about what you’re going to be eating for every single meal?
❓Worry about going out, because you don’t know what you’ll be ‘allowed’ to eat (hello, you’re an adult, you’re allowed to eat whatever the fuck you want 😤 ).
Just a quick heads up – I never worry about what I’ll be able to eat at a restaurant in advance, I just turn up and decide when they give me the menu.
Food can be ‘just’ sustenance and something you don’t worry about but you have to focus on the root cause of your eating. And that’s not a lack of willpower, being addicted to food or any other 💩 like that.
💡It’s because you are using it to cope with life and all the ways in which you don’t feel good enough, lovable enough or strong enough.
It’s not your fault but in order to deal with it, you need to deal with the other shit going on in your life and STOP obsessing about every morsel of food that you’re putting in your mouth.
