This past couple of weeks I’ve been reading a book called Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
I don’t want to go into huge detail but the story really got me thinking about all the things that we put off in life, the things we don’t do for one reason or another, perhaps because we’re not slim enough, confident enough, qualified enough or brave enough.
We think we have all the time in the world to fulfill our dreams and ambitions.
We put off till tomorrow, the things we could be doing today.
The tragedy is, the main character of the book has a terrible accident and can no longer do all those things. We just never know what is around the corner or what might happen in the future.
But so many of us are living such busy lives. We think we have no time to fit in these things.
We think we’ll do it next year, when we’ve earned enough to go part time, we’ll do it when we retire, when the children are older and don’t need so much of our time (when is that?).
Today I want to challenge you to look at your ‘busyness’. Is it productive busyness or is it just filling up time?
There is a law that says that 20% of your efforts brings you 80% of your results. Could you identify your most productive 20% to free up more time to do the fun things that you want to do?
I know that I’ve certainly been looking at my time and trying to spend more time in the evenings when I might have ‘pottered’ in my office, spending time with my kids on whatever lights them up.
Right now, I’m making a list of the things I want to have done in my life and trying to work out when I can fit them in.
I’m spending time in the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. My dreams aren’t to bungee jump or climb mount Kilimanjaro; they are to have fun, take my kids on holidays and days out and to sleep in a real Tudor Castle hotel (yes, there really is one!)
I want for you to look at what time you could devote to becoming more fulfilled now. Not next month, not next year, not the illusive tomorrow but now.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and I’d love to help you figure out what would make you feel fulfilled and how you could fit it into your life.
