One of the trickiest things, for me, is putting myself at the top of the list and making time for self care.  I’ve talked before about why self care is important but top of the list is the fact that if you’re not firing on all cylinders then you’re far less likely to be able to take care of other people like your family and your customers and clients.

So, I can almost hear you saying that it’s not that easy and you can’t find the time.  I know, I’m busy too (and sometimes I am not as good at this as I should be) but self care is an essential part of staying healthy; it’s a non-negotiable.

There are times when you’ve only got 10 minutes; that’s fine, it’s better than nothing.  It’s a bit like adding lettuce to a burger or making toddlers eat grapes and orange segments at a party.  You have to do what you can.  But like anything, it’s a case of getting into a ‘self care’ routine.

I have a whole host of different things that I use to take care of myself when I’m short on time.  Sometimes it’s a 10 minute meditation in the late afternoon / early evening, sometimes it’s a 10 minute sit down with a cuppa.  Othertimes I go to bed early.  Whatever I can sneak in is great.

If I’ve got more time, or I’m inclined to make the time, then I try to have a long bath with a book, bubbles, candles and a cup of Redbush tea at least once a week.  I try to have a pamper session of some sort at least once a month.

One of my best tools in my self care toolkit however, is my membership to The Happiness Garden.  It’s an online sanctuary run by my friend Heather Bestel.  She’s an amazing coach and therapist and there are a huge number of resources in the membership area; ranging from a quick 10 minute revitaliser to a full day home spa.

Not only are there wonderful resources and suggestions for you but there are also resources for your kids, which I love and use with my own. As well as that there’s a monthly self care theme and a really supportive private facebook group you can join.

I have been a member myself for 2 years and am about to join for the third year in a row.  I am an affiliate but really wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t wholy believe in it.

What I really do believe is that those times when you feel like you really can’t fit it in are definitely the times when you most need to create the time (not find it) for your self care.
