I know that you’re probably looking at what I’m offering and you feel like I’m speaking directly to you when I talk about how your life looks right now and how you’re using food to cope with it but I know too that you’re probably frightened in some way to bite the bullet, take action and get the help you need.
I know because I was the same. It took me 6 months of inaction from the point where I recognised that I needed help to the point of getting that help. The biggest difference though, was that I had to search for that help – you have me offering it to you, right now.
So, if you know you need help and I’m offering that help, why are you wavering?
Fear of change and the unknown
No-one likes change. There’s something that’s inherently scary about change. It’s all about moving from where you feel secure and comfortable, where everything is familiar, to an unknown quantity, where anything could happen and you don’t know how you’ll feel.
I know that’s how my clients feel, but I’m down to earth, empathetic and will do my best to make you feel comfortable and secure when you work with me. I’ll try to stretch you a little but we’ll always work at your pace and take things a step at a time. There’ll be no huge leaps into the unknown unless you decide you want that.
Fear of what other people think
Don’t worry about what I think – I am completely unshockable and non-judgemental. There’s not much you can tell me that I haven’t heard before. I’m not going to judge anything you tell me.
If you’re worried about other people’s reactions then rest assured, I’m not going to tell anyone else anything about the work we do and you can decide to keep it secret or shout it from the rooftops – it’s totally your decision. So if you say nothing to anyone, then there’s nothing for them to think about.
Fear of commitment
Maybe you’re afraid of committing the time. It’s 45 minutes per week for 4 weeks. Where do you fritter away 5 minutes here and there each week? Do you fritter it on thinking about your overwhelm? Do you fritter it on thinking about your negative patterns, feeling stressed, having internal conversations about whether you will or won’t eat that chocolate bar? Maybe you’re on social media. Do you think those little 5 minutes add up to 45 over the week? And what if the time we spent together freed up even more time for you?
Or maybe you just don’t think you’re worth that 45 minutes a week. Who are you to spend all that time on yourself, huh?
I’ll tell you who. You are an amazing woman who is worth so much more than 45 minutes… but it’s a good start 😉
Fear of failure
Maybe you’ve failed at diets before. Maybe you failed an exam. Maybe you failed to keep the weight off. Maybe you feel like some aspect of your life is a big fat failure.
You cannot fail at working with me. There is no failure. We find small tweaks to implement and if they don’t pan out quite how we thought, we tweak again. That’s not failure, that’s readjusting our course. You can’t fail with me. You won’t fail.
Fear of success
You know what? I think it’s more likely that you’re afraid of success. How will working with me change things (remember fear of change?) Will it impact on your relationships? Will it mean people will see you differently?
We’ll manage it together. This is the whole point of having me on your team as your personal cheerleader. It’s a joint thing – you decide what to do and I support you in it, all the way!
Look, I know that this stuff is scary. I’ve been there where you are and taking that first step is the most scary thing you’ll ever do but the benefits outweigh it every single time. Stop waiting for things to change on their own; either they won’t (and you’ll still be stuck here) or they’ll change in a way you have no control over and you’ll still be afraid.
If you’re stuck on that precipice, wanting to take action but feeling paralysed by the fear, well think about this; change is always scary but what’s more scary is zooming forwards 12 months and feeling the same as you do today, or worse. The fear will subside as you take the big leap and I’ll be there to support you every step of the way. You have so much to gain, let me help you to welcome in your future…
